Police arrest suspected armed robbers in Benue

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three armed robbery suspects whom it says are residents of Mararaba in Nassarawa State and Nyanya in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

This was contained in a statement by the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet.

She said the arrest was made by operatives of the Orokam Police Division who conducted a stop-and-search at Orokam Junction by Obollo Afor Road, where they intercepted the trio.

Edet identified the suspects as Mujahid Mohammed ‘m’ 21 years, Yahaya Abdullahi ‘m’ 21 years, and Kalipha Mohammad ‘m’ 28 years, who had in their possession a bag containing thirty-four (34) handsets of different brands, three (3) HP laptops, and two (2) MP3 players.

She said during investigation, the suspects confessed to belonging to a gang of armed robbers who have been terrorising the Orokam community in Benue State and other communities in Enugu State.

The suspects confessed to having robbed six (6) flats at the Umukasi area and ten (10) flats at St. Theresa area of Nsukka in Enugu State.

They further averred that their ring leader, one Abba Mohammed ‘m’ age 27 years, who is presently at large, escaped with their weapons in the course of the arrest.

Efforts are being made in collaboration with the Enugu and Gombe State Police Commands with a view to apprehending the suspect at large and prosecuting same after due investigation, as well as identifying the owners of these items.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, commended the swift action of the patrol team and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements.
