The Kano State Police Command has busted a suspected drug syndicate in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, arresting one suspect and recovering 879 parcels of suspected cannabis.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kano on Friday.

He said the operation was carried out on May 13, 2026, at about 6 pm by operatives attached to the Dawakin Tofa Police Division, following credible intelligence.

According to him, the suspect, identified as Umaru, also known as Jalo, was arrested while offloading 18 sacks of dried leaves believed to be cannabis into his residence at Yan Shado Village.

“Upon examination, each sack contained parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa, totalling 879 parcels,” he said.

Kiyawa added that the operation was in line with directives from the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who had ordered a crackdown on drug dealers across the state using intelligence gathered from the public.

He said the effort also aligns with the policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which focuses on intelligence-led and community-based policing.

“The suspect is currently in custody undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking, noting that illicit drugs contribute to crimes such as thuggery and violence.

He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with useful information, assuring that informants’ identities would be protected.
