The Nigerian Police have cleared former Adamawa North Senator, Ishaku Abbo, of allegations that he raped a minor, stating that investigations found no credible evidence to support the claim.
In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, police authorities said Abbo was exonerated after a thorough probe ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, following a petition filed in September 2025 by Mrs. Zainab Mohammed. The petition alleged that Abbo raped Khadija Mohammed at his Katampe Extension residence in Abuja on June 29, 2025.
Four specialised units, the Force Criminal Investigation Department Gender Unit, the National Cybercrime Centre, the Intelligence Tactical Unit, and the Medical Unit, were tasked with investigating the matter.
A report signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Oki Rita Oyintare on October 23, 2025, concluded that the “essential elements of the offence were lacking,” citing delays between the alleged incident and when it was reported.

The report noted that a medical examination conducted at Deda Hospital on July 10, 2025, showed the alleged victim’s hymen was intact, indicating no sexual assault. It also highlighted that attempts to preserve evidence from a phone failed, as the device was wiped before forensic analysis. Witnesses present at the residence, including a security guard and household staff, also confirmed that no rape occurred.
Investigators further disclosed that Abbo had accused Khadija Mohammed and Nafisa Mohammed Chigli of stealing his wife’s gold jewellery a day after the alleged incident, a case he reported to Dawaki Police Station on July 16, 2025.
Speaking to the press, Abbo said: “God will expose all evil plans against me and reward the doers according to their deeds.” He had earlier described the allegations as a smear campaign orchestrated by political enemies.
Abbo, first elected to the Senate in 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the APC in 2020, was re-elected in 2023 but later removed by the Court of Appeal, which declared PDP candidate Amos Yohanna as the rightful senator for Adamawa North.
