The Edo State Police Command said it has deployed no fewer than 6000 operatives for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem.

Agbonika said the 6000 personnel were drawn from various formations, including tactical units, Police Mobile Force, State Intelligence Department (SID), Explosives Ordinance Devices (EOD), Police Mobile Force and other operational teams.

He said the personnel have been strategically deployed to Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, highways, markets, motor parks, and other public places to prevent criminal activities and guarantee the safety of residents.

He added that the deployment is a comprehensive security measure put in place to ensure a peaceful, safe and hitch-free celebration in the state.

The Commissioner of Police added that in collaboration with other sister security agencies, the Command has ordered a robust deployment across the State to intensify visibility policing, strategic patrols, intelligence gathering, and surveillance operations before, during, and after the festivities.

While congratulating the Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, the Edo State Police boss urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious throughout the celebration

He, however, warned crime-security-conscious individuals away from the state, as operatives are fully prepared to decisively deal with anyone found disturbing the peace or threatening public safety.

Agbonika encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
