The Jigawa State Police Command says it has recorded major successes in its fight against crime, recovering a stolen vehicle, four motorcycles, seven cows, three sheep and more than 5,800 illicit drugs during a series of operations across the state.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the achievements were made through intelligence gathering, community support and proactive policing.
The police said two suspects, Isiyaku Isah, 26, and Musa Yakubu, 25, were arrested on May 15 in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area with a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Investigators said the suspects admitted to stealing the motorcycle, while efforts are underway to identify and return it to its rightful owner.
In another operation on May 19, officers working with local security volunteers recovered two motorcycles, one cow and three sheep after chasing suspected thieves in Malam Madori. The suspects reportedly abandoned the items and escaped into nearby bushes.
Police also arrested Emos Monday from Karshi, Abuja, on May 19 for allegedly diverting a company vehicle entrusted to him for an official trip to Kano State. The stolen Toyota Hiace bus was recovered following intelligence-led tracking.
On May 21, two men identified as Umar Garba and Abubakar Adam were arrested over the theft of a motorcycle. Investigators discovered that the suspects allegedly changed the motorcycle’s colour from red to black in an attempt to conceal its identity.
The command further said officers intercepted a vehicle carrying four cows suspected to have been stolen along the Kano–Maiduguri Road in Kiyawa Local Government Area on May 20. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the case, while the vehicle and livestock were taken into police custody.
In a separate cattle rustling case, Nabagara Bura and Sale Adamu were arrested on May 22 with two cows believed to have been stolen from Shanwure village in Auyo Local Government Area.
The police also carried out raids on criminal hideouts across the state, recovering 5,886 assorted illicit drugs and N28,750, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Several suspected drug dealers were arrested during the operation.
Commending the officers involved and members of vigilante groups who assisted the police, Commissioner of Police Haruna A. Yahaya reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urges residents to continue providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” the statement said, while further affirming that all suspects would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
