The Rivers State Police Command has announced that it will begin a statewide clampdown on vehicles operating without valid registration number plates or with covered or obscured plates starting Monday, March 16, 2026.
The police said vehicles found using revolving or flashing lights without official approval from the appropriate authority will also be impounded as part of efforts to improve security and enforce traffic regulations across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement, on Friday, issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, said the exercise is aimed at strengthening crime prevention and protecting residents.
She noted that vehicles without proper identification and those illegally using revolving lights pose serious security risks and are often linked to criminal activities.
The command also warned against the use of tinted glasses on commercial vehicles, explaining that such vehicles are frequently exploited by “one chance” kidnapping syndicates to carry out criminal acts.
Motorists were advised to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and display clear number plates at all times, while private individuals were warned against the unauthorized use of revolving or flashing lights.
“Defaulters will have their vehicles impounded and may be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the police said.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the enforcement exercise would be carried out professionally, fairly and without bias, while urging members of the public to cooperate with officers in the interest of public safety.
The command also advised motorists to carry all relevant vehicle documents, remove unauthorized flashing lights, and avoid the use of tinted glasses on commercial vehicles.
It further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
