Nigerian singer Portable has stirred reactions online following a recent video in which he made controversial remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Controversial Nigerian street-hop artist, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has once again drawn public ire over his recent remarks concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the late former president Muhammadu Buhari.
Just hours after reacting to Buhari’s reported death, Portable released another video, this time applauding Tinubu’s administration and describing it as the best Nigeria has seen. The singer stirred debate when he stated that, in his lifetime, no Nigerian president had governed with as much "dignity" as Tinubu.
"Since I was born, they've always said 'Nigeria will get better.' It’s during Tinubu's tenure that Nigeria truly improved. He’s the best president so far," the Zazoo crooner declared in a video posted to Instagram.
Portable’s comment came shortly after he released a video collage criticizing Buhari and blaming the former president for the 2020 Lekki tollgate shooting, zan incident that had long sparked controversy over who ordered the use of force. Contrary to popular accusations aimed at Tinubu, Portable claimed Buhari was solely responsible for the tragic event.
Adding fuel to the fire, Portable lashed out at critics of President Tinubu in the same clip, insulting them and even going as far as wishing death upon those who spoke against the current administration.
The singer's remarks have triggered strong backlash online, with many Nigerians condemning his comments as insensitive, reckless, and unnecessarily provocative.
