The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a young woman in the state.

The suspect, identified as Otamiri Prince, was said to have made contact with the victim online before arranging a physical meeting. However, what began as a planned encounter reportedly turned into a criminal act involving abduction and assault.

According to police findings, the victim was lured to Igwuruta and later taken by the suspect and his accomplices to a secluded bush in a neighbouring community, where the alleged crime occurred.

Spokesperson of the command, Blessing Agabe, disclosed details of the case in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

The statement reads, “The Rivers State Police Command has arrested one Otamiri Prince ‘M’, aged 24, in connection with a case of alleged kidnapping and rape.”

The command explained that swift action followed the report, leading to the suspect’s arrest through the use of modern investigative tools.

“On receipt of the report, operatives of the command promptly commenced investigation, leveraging technology-driven strategies of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which aided the investigation and eventual arrest of the suspect, Otamiri Prince.”

Police added that the suspect admitted to the crime, with several items recovered during the operation.

Authorities also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang as investigation continues, after which the suspect(s) will be charged to court,” the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has cautioned members of the public—particularly women and job seekers—against unsafe engagements with strangers met online.

He advised individuals to prioritise personal safety by verifying identities, avoiding isolated meeting points, informing trusted contacts of their movements, and choosing secure public locations.
