Security agents reportedly attempted to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday.

The incident, according to a statement posted on the X platform by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, occurred after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain returned from Cairo, Egypt.

El-Rufai had in an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) raised an alarm on his possible arrest by agents of the Federal Government.

The claim followed the arrest of some members of the opposition group, including a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on various charges.

Adekeye said the security agents approached the former governor as he disembarked from the plane and attempted to take him into custody.

He added that the operatives seized El-Rufai’s passport after he refused to follow them to their office without a formal invitation.
