Senator representing Yobe South, Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, has officially stepped down from the APC gubernatorial race.

The lawmaker made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the decision followed a wider consultation with stakeholders, respected leaders, supporters, and citizens across the state.

“This decision was not made out of fear, weakness, or lack of capacity.

“It was made out of maturity, patriotism, and commitment to unity and progress”, he said.

Bomai acknowledged the enormous pressure from many quarters on him not to backdown, but said he prioritizes unity over personal interest.

The senator recalled how he accepted the call to contest the Yobe South senatorial seat for the third time.

“And let me say clearly; stepping into the senatorial race is not a step backward.

“It is another platform to fight for our people, to defend their interests, to attract development, empower our youths, support our women, and ensure our communities have a stronger voice at the national level”, he said.

He appreciated his supporters who believed in his gubernatorial aspiration, for their show of love, loyalty, and sacrifices, urging them to remain steadfast, united, and committed to their shared vision.

He, however, warned that politics should never divide them beyond repair.

“Elections will come and go, but the people must always remain the priority”, he emphasized.

Bomai was before now was part of the group of six aspirants who rejected the endorsement of Baba Malam Wali as APC governorship aspirant and called for direct primaries.

The group has now been depleted to 3 aspirants following the withdrawal of 3 other aspirants from the race.

The three APC governorship aspirants in the state who are now demanding for fair and transparent primary election are, Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah, Hon. Bashir Machina and Mustapha Maihajja.
