Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, says the Senate Committee on Constitution Review will present its final report on the proposed creation of state police to the red chamber for consideration and approval before the end of the week.

Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, Bamidele said the move is part of the National Assembly’s efforts to address the country’s insecurity challenges.

The lawmaker, who is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, stated that once the National Assembly approves the proposal, it will be transmitted to the 36 State Houses of Assembly for ratification.

“We came to the conclusion that we’re going to pass the constitutional amendment in respect to making provision for state police, and I can tell you as of today that, that will come to creation this very week because there’s no need to allow any further delay,” he said.

According to him, federal lawmakers had held several meetings in recent weeks with President Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and other stakeholders on the proposed state policing framework.
