A senior police officer, ASP Clement Yunana, has died after he was hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident along Bauchi Road in Gombe State.
According to a post made by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X on Friday, the tragic incident happened on Thursday evening around 5:00 p.m. near the Matrix Fueling Station in Tumfure, Akko Local Government Area.
ASP Yunana, who was 50 years old, was serving at the Railway Police Outstation in Bajoga, Funakaye LGA.
He was reportedly trying to cross the road when an unknown vehicle hit him and sped off.
Other police officers at the scene rushed him to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe for treatment.
Sadly, he was confirmed dead around 6:50 p.m. that same day.
His body has been kept at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to track down the driver responsible for the accident.
The police have urged members of the public to come forward with any useful information that could help identify and arrest the fleeing driver.
