Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Tuesday killed nine persons, including a police officer, in some communities of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The affected communities – Okwutanobe, Okpokpolo, Olegagbani, and Ikpele – located near the border with Kogi State were attacked by the herdsmen from last Friday to Tuesday.

The Chairman of Agatu LGA, Melvin Ejeh, confirmed the attacks to journalists on Wednesday.
He said: “At least four people were killed in Okwitanobe, Okpokpolo, and Olegugbani while five people, including a police officer, were killed in Ikpele today (Wednesday).”
“These attacks, suspected to be reprisals, are unfortunate.”
