The curfew imposed on Karim Lamido town and surrounding villages in Taraba State, Northeast has been relaxed.
Recall that there was an outbreak of violence over the ownership of farmlands in the area.
Reports indicate that the crisis claimed at least 20 lives and led to the destruction of homes and properties worth millions of naira.
The new curfew now runs from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., replacing the earlier 24-hour restriction that was imposed a few days ago in the affected areas.
The decision followed a gradual return to calm after the violent clashes between neighbouring communities that had lived together peacefully for many years.
However, the recent conflict reportedly stemmed from a dispute over ownership of fertile floodplain farmlands, which have become highly valuable due to dry-season farming and the significant income generated from agricultural activities. Competition for control of the land eventually escalated into violence.
As a result of the crisis, at least 20 people lost their lives, while several houses and farmlands were destroyed.
