Nigerian global music star Tems is taking her women-centered mentorship platform, the Leading Vibe Initiative, beyond Nigeria as she officially launches its expansion into Kenya.
The Grammy-winning singer confirmed the move in a new interview released on Monday, October 20, 2025, describing it as the next step in her mission to empower and amplify the voices of African women in music.
“The world needs to hear these girls, and I’m not going to gatekeep them,” Tems declared, speaking passionately about her commitment to supporting emerging women artists, producers, and songwriters across the continent.
Founded by Tems, the Leading Vibe Initiative focuses on helping young women in music access opportunities, develop creative and technical skills, and connect with mentors who can guide their careers. The program includes workshops, masterclasses, and community sessions inspired by Tems’s own rise in an industry she describes as “tough but transformative.”
Tems explained that taking the initiative to Nairobi is part of a broader vision to reach more countries in Africa. “This is just the beginning of our expansion,” she said. “Seeing the fire and passion in these women gives me hope, there’s so much progress happening.”
Beyond music, the initiative aims to shift how women are represented in the industry, highlighting their potential not only as performers but also as producers, sound engineers, and business leaders. Tems added that her goal is to provide the kind of encouragement and visibility she wished she had when starting out.
“I think they need support in every way,” she said. “And I want to be that support.”
With this expansion, Tems continues to use her platform to open doors for African women in music, reaffirming her role as one of the continent’s most influential and empowering voices.
