Tennis star, Jatuporn Na Lamphun hit with life ban after match-fixing probe

3 hours ago 1
Tennis player Jatuporn Na Lamphun has been handed a lifetime ban from the sport after being found guilty of multiple match-fixing offences, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced. The 31-year-old was found to have been involved in, or attempted to fix, 22 matches between 2023 and 2024. The ITIA confirmed that in 18 of those matches, the charges included giving or offering money. In addition to the lifetime suspension, Na Lamphun was also fined 84,000 after violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme (TACP). The Thai player, who is currently unranked, did not respond to the charges brought against him and refused to cooperate with the investigation. The ITIA noted that while he had already been under a temporary suspension, his lack of response and cooperation prompted the enforcement of a permanent ban, effective from August 20. He also did not appeal the decision at an independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer, meaning the ruling stands. The lifetime sanction prevents Na Lamphun from playing, coaching, or attending any tennis event organised by major governing bodies, including the ATP, WTA, ITF, Wimbledon, the French Tennis Federation, Tennis Australia, the USTA, or any national association affiliated with the sport. This is not the first time Na Lamphun has faced disciplinary action. In 2016, he served an 18-month suspension after admitting to three breaches of the anti-corruption rules between July and November 2014. At the time, he was fined 3,700 following a ruling by Independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer Ian Mill QC. Na Lamphun contested parts of his 2016 case but was later found guilty of an additional charge for failing to cooperate with a Tennis Integrity Unit investigation, which formed the basis of his suspension. The ITIAs latest ruling means his career in tennis is effectively over, with the agency stressing that players who engage in corruption or refuse to cooperate with investigations will face the sports most severe sanctions. The post Tennis star, Jatuporn Na Lamphun hit with life ban after match-fixing probe appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
