The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has described the allegation of the presence of a terrorist group in the town as false and unfounded.
Dismissing the allegation in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem on Monday, Oba Akanbi said the reports were manufactured and coordinated by enemies seeking to discredit the town’s security structure and religious harmony.
The monarch was reacting to the purported invitation and arrest of Sheik Dahood Imran Molaasan by the Department of State Services, DSS,on allegation of terrorism.
The monarch insisting that Iwo remained one of the most peaceful towns in Nigeria also stated that attempts to attack the image and values of Iwo and its people would continue to fail, adding that the town’s long standing reputation for peace and safety remained intact.
He described the reports “as a deliberate move to weaken the security capacity of Iwo by undermining the Jaysu Security Network, which he said plays a critical role in maintaining law and order.”
The Oluwo warned that “individuals spreading non-existent information were social media terrorists and bandits and threatened to take legal action against those involved.”
He also defended Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen, led by the Grand Mufty of Yorubaland, Sheik Dahood Imran Molaasan, describing the organisation as “a reputable body contributing to national security and academic development.”
According to him, “the organisation operates over 40 schools, including a private College of Education and orphanage homes, and has existed for more than two decades.”
The monarch said the security arm of the organisation has contributed significantly to curbing insecurity in Iwoland, helping to sustain peace across the town and its environs.
Oba Akanbi noted that the achievements of the group in education and security informed his decision to honour Sheik Dahood Imran Molaasan with the title of Grand Mufty of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta.
He said, “The media report of the existence of a terrorist group in Iwo is false and unfounded. Iwo remains the most peaceful town in South Western States promoted by the activities of Jaysu Security Network.”
The statement added, “In Iwo, Jaysu Security Network is the most trusted and active. They work directly with the Nigerian Police Force and assist in the arrest of hardened criminals.
“I have put machineries in motion to effect the arrest of anyone peddling such rumours to discredit the most peaceful town in Nigeria.”
