Ahead of the 2027 general elections, tensions are on the rise in Kogi State over who will fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress to represent Kogi East at the Senate.
The current senator holding the position, Jibrin Echocho, has seemingly drawn a battle line with the governor of the state, Usman Ododo, over alleged plots to scene him out of reconing and deny him the party’s ticket.
Echocho while speaking with supporters said he had given his support over the years to Ododo, as well as the former governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, and boasted that the governor’s plan to scheme him out will not work.
The senator who was captured on video, said

“I have been very supportive of your administration. I have been loyal to you, (Ododo), and AYB (Yahaya Bello). Why do you want to deny Kogi east the best representation ever? I have told everybody who cares to listen that I don’t want to contest for governor. Since you’re now out to fight me, that battle line has been drawn.”
He continued, “The structures I’ve put on ground, the physical structures and the various empowerment are the only things that can guarantee the success of Mr President of Nigeria in the forthcoming election and probably your own election for second tenure.
“Tell your people I’m waiting. I’m the one here”.
He also claimed the governor wrote the report of the primary at the Government House, but vowed that such a report will not stand.
