A public affairs analyst and economic advocate, Aminu Kuta, said the federal government has not introduced a new vehicle tax for Nigerians.
He disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. His reaction comes as a report claimed that the Nigerian government had introduced a fresh tax.
He dismissed the claims as false claims.
According to him, either the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) or the Federal Ministry of Finance did not impose such a tax.
“I wish to categorically state that there is no new tax on vehicles as is being falsely circulated in some quarters. Our findings confirm that neither the Nigeria Revenue Service nor the Ministry of Finance has introduced any such policy,” the statement read.
He urged Nigerians to rely on verified government channels for policy updates, warning that fabricated messages and fake websites are increasingly being used to exploit citizens.
DAILY POST reports that since the implementation of Nigeria’s new tax laws in January 2026, Nigerians have been inundated with several unverified claims, which happen to be untrue.
