The Nigeria Customs Service has announced the deployment of Comptroller Joe Anani as new Controller for the Tincan Island Port Command Apapa Lagos.

He replaces former Customs Area Controller, Frank Onyeka who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General of Customs and redeployed to the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.

This was contained in a press release made available to journalists over the weekend in Lagos by the Command’s Public Relations Officer Oscar Ivara, a chief superintendent of Customs.

In his farewell speech at the handover ceremony, ACG Onyeka expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, as well as officers, stakeholders, and other government agencies for their support during his tenure.

ACG Onyeka described his time at the Command as a fulfilling experience marked by significant achievements in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, and stakeholder engagement.

He went further to posit that the Command generated over N1.6 trillion in revenue in the 2025 fiscal year, surpassing its target, while over N401 billion was collected in the first quarter of 2026.

He also highlighted major anti-smuggling successes, including the interception of illicit drugs and prohibited items valued at over N35 billion.

The former Tincan Customs boss, who moves to the Headquarters as the ACG in charge of the Human Resource Department (HRD), further noted that the Command, under his watch, invested substantially in capacity-building programmes for officers, improved collaboration with stakeholders, and implemented welfare support initiatives through the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA).

Speaking further, ACG Onyeka expressed confidence in the leadership capacity of Comptroller Anani even as he urged officers, stakeholders, and the entire trading community to extend their maximum cooperation to the new Controller in order to sustain the Command’s progress.

In his acceptance speech, Comptroller Anani also thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adeniyi, and the management of the Service for the confidence reposed in him.

He commended ACG Onyeka for the achievements recorded during his tenure, particularly in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations, and pledged to consolidate on the successes already recorded.

Comptroller Anani assured officers, stakeholders, and sister agencies of his commitment to professionalism, transparency, discipline, and efficient service delivery, reiterating his administration’s open-door policy and called for continued synergy among all stakeholders to enhance national security and facilitate legitimate trade.

The ceremony was attended by senior Customs officers, representatives of sister agencies and stakeholders in the maritime sector.
