Tinubu salutes security forces, calls on Nigerians to join fight against terrorism

President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to members of Nigeria’s security services for their resilience and commitment in confronting terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other threats to national peace, while urging citizens to play a more active role in safeguarding the country.

In a message shared on his X handle on Monday, the President commended personnel of the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their continued sacrifices in protecting lives and defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity despite operating under difficult and often dangerous conditions.

Addressing troops serving in various theatres of operation, Tinubu described them as the frontline defenders of the nation, standing between law-abiding citizens and forces seeking to destabilise communities.

“You stand as a shield between innocent citizens and those who seek to destroy the peace, safety, and dignity of our communities,” Tinubu said.

The President acknowledged the demanding nature of their responsibilities, noting that security personnel routinely serve in remote forests, difficult terrains, waterways, highways, military formations and aerial operations to keep the country safe.

According to him, the campaign against insecurity has required immense sacrifice and perseverance from those tasked with defending the nation.

“This fight has not been easy. It has come with pain, pressure, and sacrifice. But your courage has remained firm. Your service is acknowledged. Your sacrifice is honoured. Your country does not take you for granted,” he stated.

Tinubu extended his commendation beyond the military, recognising the contributions of officers and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, intelligence agencies and various community-based security structures involved in maintaining law and order.

The President also reserved special recognition for the families of serving personnel, noting that behind every officer on active duty are loved ones who bear the emotional burden of service and prolonged separation.

“I also acknowledge the families behind the uniform. Many of you have endured long absences, anxious nights, and the emotional cost of duty. Nigeria remembers that sacrifice, too,” he said.

Paying homage to fallen heroes, Tinubu praised security personnel who lost their lives while defending the country, saying their sacrifices would remain an enduring part of Nigeria’s history.

“We honour those who have paid the supreme price in defence of our country. Their names may not always trend, but their courage lives on in rescued communities, protected families, and the survival of the nation they served,” he added.

The President stressed that the battle against terrorism and violent crime cannot be won by security agencies alone, urging citizens to support ongoing efforts through vigilance and timely intelligence sharing.

“The fight against terror is not only a military operation. It is a national duty. Citizens must support our security forces by providing timely, useful information. When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” he said.

Reaffirming his administration’s determination to defeat criminal elements, Tinubu declared that Nigeria would not allow terrorists, kidnappers, bandits or violent extremists to dictate the nation’s future or undermine its unity.

“Nigeria will not surrender to fear. We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or violent extremists to define who we are as a people. Their violence is not our identity. Their hatred does not represent Nigerians of any faith, creed, or community,” Tinubu said.

The President concluded his message by expressing gratitude to security personnel across the country for their vigilance, dedication and patriotism, while offering prayers for their safety and success as they continue their mission to protect the nation and its people.
