Tragedy struck in Akure, the Ondo State capital, as a truck rammed into vehicles and a motorcycle, crushing two middle-aged brothers to d3ath. The accident occurred along Reuben Fasoranti Road on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The deceased were said to be fruit sellers operating beside Iyeoma Plaza, Alagbaka. It was gathered that VIO officers were carrying out a stop-and-check operation on vehicle licences, which allegedly caused traffic congestion in the area. Speaking with Hope Newspaper, a commercial driver narrated how he narrowly escaped d3ath at the scene. I came to deliver goods to my boss, but the shop was yet to open, so I parked my vehicle. As I was moving towards the boot to bring down the goods in front of the shop, I suddenly heard people shouting. The truck crushed the two men on the motorcycle instantly. I thank God for sparing my life," he said. Officers from the Ijapo Division later evacuated the victims bodies to the morgue. Meanwhile, sympathisers and residents of the area blamed the VIO officers for the incident. It reportedly took the intervention of the Nigeria Police Force to prevent angry youths from attacking the VIO office and restore calm in the area.
