Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully apprehended three individuals suspected of terrorism and seized an AK-47 rifle with ammunition during a pre-rainy season security sweep in the Agasha area of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
According to OPWS spokesperson, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, in a statement released on Friday, the operation took place on March 26, 2026, carried out by personnel from the COAS Intervention Battalion XI after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of suspected criminals in the vicinity.
Lieutenant Zubairu explained that the troops moved strategically to isolate the area and were able to detain the suspects, identified as Sule Ibrahim and Salmanu Risko of Nasarawa State, along with Abdulkareem Haruna from Jos, Plateau State.
Items recovered from the suspects included one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 27 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition. Additional objects seized comprised a Tecno mobile phone, a cutlass, 10 sachets of alcohol, and various charms.
The spokesperson noted that the suspects remain in military custody, pending preliminary investigations and eventual prosecution.
He added that the operation is part of ongoing initiatives to secure farming communities ahead of the wet season, with troops maintaining a robust posture to prevent criminal activities across the state.
Meanwhile, the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, lauded the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication in protecting lives and property within the operational area.
