Troops of Sector 4 of Operation UDO KA have cleared several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and destroyed a suspected terrorist camp during an offensive operation in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation conducted on March 11, targeted the Orsu–Ihiteukwa axis where suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) had planted explosive devices along key routes.

According to the sources, troops engaged the armed group during the operation, forcing them to flee the area. Several IEDs discovered along the route were safely detonated by the troops.

The troops also uncovered and destroyed a facility believed to be used by the group for terror activities. Recovered items from the site included 32 newly fabricated pipes suspected to be for IED construction, multiple wires and clips, a double-barrel gun, a pistol magazine loaded with one 9mm round, three rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, two CCTV cameras, and a Biafran flag.

In a related development, troops of the 143 Battalion responded to a distress call at about 9:41 p.m. on the same day over reported criminal activities along the Okigwe–Ihube Road in Okigwe Local Government Area.

Sources said the troops rescued two civilians during the operation, while another person was reportedly abducted by the criminals before the soldiers arrived.

The rescued victims were evacuated for medical treatment, while security operatives have launched a search operation to locate the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible.
