Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, have reportedly foiled an attempt by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to infiltrate Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
The incident occurred around 2 am on Saturday when residents heard sporadic gunfire at the welcome gate to Damaturu along Maiduguri Road.
A military source who preferred to remain anonymous confirmed the incident, noting that, “The suspected terrorists couldn’t withstand the superior firepower of our troops.”
A resident of Redbricks Housing Estate, not far from where the incident occurred, said, “We were thrown into panic when we heard the heavy gunshots in the middle of the night.”
As of the time of filing this report, military authorities had not yet issued a statement regarding the attempted infiltration.
