
Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted and arrested two suspected informants linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) along the Nigeria–Niger border in Borno State during a routine patrol operation.
A post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama said security sources disclosed that the arrest was carried out on April 3 at about 03:16 am by troops of 5 Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base Walada.
The suspects who were identified as Bafanami Mallam and Bakolo Bako were reportedly attempting to cross into Nigeria from the Kainuwa area along the border axis when they were intercepted.
Items found on the suspects included ₦159,500, a Tecno Android phone, a PalmPay debit card, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, as well as Civilian Joint Task Force and Lake Chad Fishermen Association identity cards.
According to the sources, the suspects are in custody as investigations continue to determine their involvement in terrorist logistics and information networks.
“The suspects are currently in custody for preliminary investigation to determine their level of involvement in suspected terrorist logistics and information support networks,” one of the sources said.
