Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 10 fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and recovered several weapons during a successful night ambush along the Gamboru–Dikwa–Marte axis of Borno State.

The operation, according to the military, came shortly after another encounter in which over 50 insurgents were neutralised around the Katarko axis.

Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Maiduguri.

He explained that troops under Sector 1, 24 Task Force Brigade, carried out a well-planned ambush that stopped a terrorist infiltration attempt from the Flatari axis into Gamboru Ngala.

“After suffering heavy casualties, the insurgents diverted towards Dikwa but were intercepted again and neutralised in the Dikwa–Marte general area,” Uba said.

He added that the troops engaged the terrorists around 11:50 p.m. on October 25, after spotting their movement. “The unit delivered heavy and accurate fire, forcing the insurgents to flee in confusion,” he said.

At dawn, the soldiers searched the area and confirmed that 10 terrorists had been killed. Items recovered included five AK-47 rifles, a PKT machine gun, three locally-made guns, two pistols, five loaded magazines, linked ammunition, motorcycles, bicycles, and communication gadgets.

The military high command praised the troops for their courage and professionalism during the operation, describing it as another success in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
