Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly neutralised several suspected ISWAP terrorists during a follow-up exploitation operation after a failed attack on a Forward Operating Base, FOB, in Tungushe, Borno State.

The development was disclosed in a post shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, via his X handle.

Security sources said the terrorists launched an attack on the military position in the early hours of May 22 but were repelled after a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Following the attack, troops conducted clearance and exploitation operations around the area at about 6:00 a.m., during which several weapons and combat items abandoned by fleeing insurgents were recovered.

Recovered items included one mobile phone, three AK-47 magazines, two hand grenades, five belts of PKT ammunition, one locally fabricated grenade, empty cases of PKT and 7.62mm ammunition, head warmers, slippers, clothing, and fuel supplies.

Military sources estimated that at least 15 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, based on blood trails, intensity of the exchange of fire, and intelligence assessments from the operation area.

They added that troops’ morale remained high, with continued readiness to sustain counterterrorism operations across the theatre.
