Troops under Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, have restored normalcy in Ojobi, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, following a communal clash over a leadership tussle in the community.

A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, made this known in a post on X.

Makama said the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on April 11 when troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, deployed at Bomadi, responded to distress information about violence between two rival factions.

According to Makama, the crisis was triggered by disagreements over alleged attempts by the incumbent community chairman to amend the community leadership constitution to extend his tenure beyond the stipulated one-year term.

He said that the disagreement escalated into violent confrontation, resulting in the death of one local resident.

He also noted that troops swiftly intervened, restored calm in the area and prevented further escalation of violence.

Makama further disclosed that both factions were subsequently invited to Bomadi for peaceful resolution of the dispute.

He reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to maintaining peace and preventing communal conflicts across the Niger Delta region.
