Trump claims U.S. strikes cripple Iranian fleet, level Naval headquarters

President Donald Trump declared Sunday that American military forces had dealt a severe blow to Iran’s naval capabilities, announcing that multiple Iranian vessels were destroyed in recent strikes and that a key naval facility was heavily damaged.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had been briefed on the outcome of the operation.

“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important,” Trump said on his Truth Social network.

He indicated that further action could follow.

“We are going after the rest—they will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also!

“In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!”

The remarks come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, following months of maritime confrontations and heightened military posturing in strategic waterways. U.S. officials have repeatedly accused Iran of aggressive maneuvers in key shipping corridors, while Iranian leaders have warned against what they describe as American interference in the region.

Although the Pentagon had not immediately released detailed confirmation of the scope of the reported strikes, Trump’s comments suggest a significant escalation in naval engagement. Analysts note that any verified destruction of multiple Iranian vessels would mark one of the most substantial direct confrontations between U.S. and Iranian forces in recent years.

Strained relations between the United States and Iran date back decades but have intensified in recent years over sanctions, regional proxy conflicts, and disputes over nuclear development. The U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement during Trump’s presidency set off a new cycle of economic penalties and retaliatory actions.

Naval tensions have been particularly pronounced in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters, where U.S. and Iranian forces frequently operate in close proximity. Incidents involving fast-attack craft, surveillance drones, and commercial shipping have periodically raised fears of broader conflict.

Against this backdrop, Trump’s latest claims — if substantiated — would represent a dramatic development in an already volatile security environment, potentially reshaping naval dynamics in the region and prompting international scrutiny over the scope and consequences of the reported operation.
