Real Madrid edged a narrow 1-0 win over Benfica in the first leg of their Champions League knockout play-off on Tuesday night.

It was a quiet game without incident or goals, until Vinicius Junior opened the scoring early in the second half.

Vinicius curled in from the left and curled in a stunning effort, before he was yellow-carded for his celebration.

The Brazilian then claimed he was racially abused, leading to the game being suspended for over 10 minutes.

Jose Mourinho was also shown two yellow cards, as Madrid avenged their 4-2 defeat to Benfica.

In the other game of the night, current holders Paris Saint-Germain fought back from a two-goal deficit, to beat Ligue 1 rivals Monaco 3-2.

Borussia Dortmund also defeated Atalanta 2-0.
