War: Over 100 schoolchildren killed as US-Israel airstrike hit girls’ school

The US and Israeli airstrikes resulted in the death of at least 100 schoolchildren from Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, which is located in southern Iran, according to the Mizan news agency.

According to the state-run news agency, many more of the schoolchildren are still missing.

In a video that’s been shared online, it seems to show right after the strike happened, smoke coming up from the walls that were burnt, and debris scattered all over the road.

Hundreds of people gathered at the site, and some of them looked very upset. Screams can be heard in the background.

Persian fact-checking service Factnameh compared the video with other pictures of the school area and found that the video was real.

Reuters confirmed that the video was indeed from the school.

Hossein Kermanpour, who speaks for Iran’s health ministry, posted on X saying the bombing of the school was “the most painful news” from the conflict so far. “God knows how many more children’s bodies they will dig out from under the rubble,” he said.

The school seems to be next to a Revolutionary Guards barracks.

If the number of deaths is confirmed, the school bombing would be the biggest incident causing many casualties from the US-led attack up to now.

Throughout the country, Iranians were expressing a mix of fear and hope as the bombings kept happening. Some people felt relieved that the long-awaited strikes had finally happened, and those who opposed the government hoped they could bring about political change.

But both feelings were mixed with worry, because everyone was scared the attacks might cause more deaths among civilians in a country that’s already suffered a lot from recent violence.

In Tehran, some people stayed inside their homes, while others drove through heavy traffic to reach their kids because the schools had closed.

Many people said they had been getting ready for weeks in case there was a war, gathering water and other supplies.
