War: We are not there yet – JD Vance on US, Iran deal

1 month ago 12

United States Vice President, JD Vance has said that the US is not there yet regarding a deal with Iran.

Vance made this, Thursday while interacting with newsmen, stating that ‌both sides were ‌close and that the US is in a position where it could substantially set back Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Recall that the US media had reported earlier that American and Iranian negotiators had struck a deal on Tuesday, but that it still needed Donald Trump’s approval.

Vance’s comments mark the first senior US reaction to the reports.

When asked on the matter at the White House press briefing earlier on Thursday, the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent,

said negotiators had been going back and forth.

Bessent added that Donald Trump had made it very clear that he has several red lines, including that Iran must hand over its highly enriched uranium and must not get a nuclear weapon.

“The Strait of Hormuz must be free and open as it has been before. Everything depends on what the president wants to do,” Bessent added.
