‘We lost many comrades’ – Gov Sani kicks against comparing democracy with military tyranny

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has kicked against comparing democratic dispensation with military tyranny.

Featuring in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Friday, Sani said Nigeria lost a lot of comrades during military dictatorship.

He said that many of those making such comparisons either have a military background or did not actively participate in the struggle for the return of democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria.

The governor urged Nigerians to continue to believe in democracy and work towards strengthening it.

“So there is no basis for comparing military rule with democratic governance. At that time of military tyranny, many journalists and other comrades were tortured and killed.

“Number two, recall that in the course of our struggle, MKO Abiola’s wife lost her life precisely on  June 4, 1996 in Lagos, she was killed.

“Our leader, MKO Abiola himself who won the most freest and fairest election in the country, also died in captivity on July 7, 1998.

“So, for me, when you look at most of those instances and incidents, we lost a lot of our comrades, so nobody should compare democratic dispensation and military tyranny,” the governor said.
