The Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, has announced plans to resume operations in Biu Local Government Council of Borno State following the resolution of issues that led to the suspension of its services after an attack on its office.
In a statement issued by the company’s Communications Officer on Wednesday, Blessing Tunoh, YEDC expressed appreciation to the Borno state government for its intervention in resolving the crisis.

The company recalled that on May 4, 2026, hoodlums attacked its office in Biu, vandalising the facility, destroying property and carting away company assets.

The incident forced YEDC to suspend operations in the area for the safety of its personnel and infrastructure.

“YEDC commended the governor of the state, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for his timely intervention through the Ministry of Power and Energy, describing the efforts as instrumental in facilitating dialogue and resolving the dispute”, the statement read.

The company also acknowledged the contributions of the Biu local government authority, the Biu Elders Forum, and other prominent stakeholders from the community for their constructive engagement, which it said helped ensure a peaceful resolution of the matter.

While condemning the attack on its personnel and facilities, YEDC stressed that violence and vandalism undermine electricity service delivery and negatively affect consumers.

The distribution company urged customers to channel complaints through its established customer engagement and complaint resolution platforms instead of resorting to violence.

According to the statement, YEDC will resume services and operations in Biu shortly following the successful resolution of the issues.
