As residents of Ogun State prepare for the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations, the police in the state has said the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and bangers remains prohibited.

The police public relations officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the loud sounds produced by these items can easily be mistaken for gunshots or explosions, often causing fear, panic and unnecessary tension among residents.

He warned that anyone found causing public disturbance, injury or damage to property will be apprehended and prosecuted according to the law.

According to him, the command has adopted comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

Babaseyi disclosed that the state commissioner of police, Lanre Ogunlowo has directed area commanders, divisional police officers and all tactical units to intensify patrols and increase police visibility in residential areas, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals and along major highways.

The statement reads, “The Command reminds members of the public that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and bangers remains in force. The loud sounds produced by these items can easily be mistaken for gunshots or explosions, often causing fear, panic and unnecessary tension among residents.

“Parents and guardians are advised to caution their children and wards against the use of fireworks, as anyone whose actions cause public disturbance, injury or damage to property will be apprehended and prosecuted according to the law”

The Commissioner while urging residents to celebrate peacefully, obey the law and cooperate fully with all security agencies, encouraged them to report any suspicious activities or security concerns through the command’s emergency lines: Gateway Shield (General Complaints Line – Toll Free): 0800 000 9111.
