
The 12th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Offiong Offiong, has announced that no fewer than 10,820 students will graduate from the school by next week.
He stated this when he reeled out activities to mark the 38th convocation ceremony on Thursday during a press conference.
Out of the total number of graduands, the Vice-Chancellor said 152 will go home with diplomas.
“9,173 will go home with first degrees, and 1,495 will bag postgraduate degrees. Of the 9,173 first degree graduates, 52 made first class, 2,390 fell into the second-class upper division, 5,819 bagged second-class lower division, while 666 made third class, and 246 had pass.”
On Friday, May 10, 2026, a gala night will be held for all Ph.D. graduands and their supervisors, while the award of Ph.D. and honorary degrees, as well as the launching of the endowment fund/induction into UNICAL Alumni, will also hold.
“A total number of 463 Ph.D. graduands will be convoking this year.”
He said that Governor Bassey Otu and two others will be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees, while Major General Garba Ayodeji Wahab, Ph.D., will deliver a special lecture on “Redefining National Security in an Era of Endemic Insecurity: The Role of Tertiary Institutions.”
