At least, 26 civilians, including women and children, lost their lives on Monday in a deadly Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack along the Rann–Kala Balge – Gamboru Ngala road in Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, multiple civilian vehicles travelling from Rann in Kala Balge Local Government Area towards Gamboru Ngala were struck by a series of explosives planted along the route.

Three individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.

The convoy reportedly entered an area where IEDs had been strategically concealed. The explosives were triggered by the movement of vehicles, causing immediate and significant casualties.

Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene to evacuate victims and administer first aid to the injured. Security forces have since cordoned off the area and launched clearance operations to secure the route and prevent further incidents.

Authorities confirmed that the injured have been evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while investigations into the attack continue.
