The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has revealed that a total of 379,997 candidates in the five South East states and Lagos were impacted by glitches during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during an ongoing press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.

“A total of 206,610 candidates across 65 centres in Lagos were affected, while in the Owerri zone, which includes the five South East states, 173,387 candidates across 92 centres faced the glitches,” Oloyede stated.

The UTME, a critical examination required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, assesses candidates in four subjects, including the compulsory Use of English, with the remaining subjects tailored to their proposed field of study.

The breakdown of 2025 UTME scores is as follows:

73,441 candidates (3.76 percent) scored between 250 and 299.

334,560 candidates (17.11 percent) scored between 200 and 249.

983,187 candidates (50.29 percent) scored between 160 and 199, which is typically the minimum threshold for admission in many institutions.

488,197 candidates (24.97 percent) scored between 140 and 159.

57,419 candidates (2.94 percent) scored between 120 and 139.

3,820 candidates (0.20 percent) scored between 100 and 119.

2,031 candidates (0.10 percent) scored below 100.
