Former Super Eagles defender, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has said even the legendary Jose Mourinho cannot save the team.
Iloenyosi, speaking to Brila FM, questioned the mentality within Nigeria’s national team.
This follows their unimpressive performances during the last phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
After the three-time African champions confirmed their spot in the tournament, they drew 1-1 with Benin Republic and lost 2-1 to Rwanda at home.
Before their defeat to the Amavubi in Uyo, Augustine Eguavoen’s men had recorded consecutive home victories against Benin (3-0) and Libya (1-0).
“Eguavoen has never been part of the problem. Even if you bring in someone like Mourinho to coach Nigeria, the team still lacks character.
“The pattern we played (against Rwanda), the boys didn’t position themselves well, no passion and character in the national team.
“Losing the game is not Eguavoen’s fault. Even if you bring in another coach, they will still lose that game,” he said.
