Famous Ghanaian singer and songwriter Amaarae has called on Afrobeats artists to embrace fearless creativity and push the boundaries of the genre.
Speaking during a recent interview with media personality Madame Joyce, the Fountain Baby hitmaker shared her thoughts on the current state of Afrobeats and the need for artistic evolution.
According to Amaarae, while Afrobeats has achieved massive commercial success globally, this has also made some artists hesitant to experiment. “Afrobeats needs to evolve in a direction that's fearless,” she said. “Artists have made so much money from a certain type of sound that they're afraid to step out of the boundaries.”
She stressed the importance of African artists challenging the status quo and venturing into new creative spaces. “Africans need to get it together and start to experiment,” Amaarae added, highlighting that growth and innovation are vital for the genre’s long-term relevance on the global stage.
Her comments have sparked conversations among music lovers and industry watchers. Many agreed that Afrobeats is due for fresh sonic exploration beyond its commercially successful formulas.
