President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent heartfelt birthday greetings to Nigerian billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu on the occasion of his 64th birthday, describing him as an “African business icon.”
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the president commended Elumelu for his outstanding contributions to business expansion and enterprise development across Nigeria and the African continent.
Tinubu noted that as Chairman of United Bank for Africa and founder of Heirs Holdings and Transcorp, Elumelu has remained a leading advocate for entrepreneurship and private sector-driven growth in Africa.
The President also praised his commitment to excellence and his promotion of Africapitalism, an economic philosophy that encourages long-term investments by the private sector to drive sustainable development.
He further highlighted the impact of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, particularly its entrepreneurship program, which has trained about 2.5 million young Africans across 54 countries and provided over 24,000 entrepreneurs with $5,000 in seed funding each.
Tinubu wished Elumelu continued good health, strength, and greater accomplishments as he marks the milestone.
“As Elumelu celebrates this special occasion, the President joins his family and friends to wish him good health and strength and continued success in his pursuits,” the statement reads.
