APC appeals sack of Benue caretaker committee

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday appealed the sack of its seven-man caretaker committee in Benue by a court in the state.

Justice Tertsagha Kume of the Benue State High Court, Makurdi, on Thursday, sacked the caretaker committee constituted by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.

Kume, who delivered the ruling in a suit filed by a member of APC in the state, Austin Agada, and eight others held that the dissolution of the state working committee and the action of the NWC were not in accordance with the APC’s constitution.

The plaintiffs had challenged the dissolution of the SWC by the APC national leadership over lack of fair hearing.

Not satisfied with the ruling, the NWC, through its lawyer, Mathew Burkaa (SAN), challenged the ruling at the Court of Appeal, Makurdi.

The APC also filed a motion at the Benue State High Court for a stay of execution of the judgement pending the hearing and determination of the appeal.

The party prayed for a restraining order stopping the respondents from enforcing or taking any step to enforce or take benefit of the ruling or judgement pending the determination of the appeal.
