The Bauchi State High Court 5 has sentenced five individuals to life imprisonment for armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

The prosecution counsel, Barr. U.I. Lame, informed the court that the defendants—Aliyu Yusuf, Adamu Muhammed, Bilal Aliyu, Ismail Haruna, and Mansur Mu’azu—conspired to commit the unlawful act on May 29, 2018.

Their actions, he stated, violated Section 96 and were punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.

According to Barr. Lame, the defendants, armed with cutlasses and sticks, broke into the homes of Abdullahi Garba and Okafor Bright, robbing them of various valuables.

The stolen items included a Haojue motorcycle valued at N100,000, two Tecno handsets worth N13,500, three LG plasma televisions valued at N200,000, two laptops worth N40,700, and six additional handsets valued at N200,000.

The counsel for the defendants, Barr U.I. Wunti, during the hearing, pleaded for leniency, citing the fact that they had already spent nearly seven years in prison.

Delivering his judgment on Friday, Justice Mu’azu Abubakar found the defendants guilty, stating that their actions contravened Sections 96 and 343 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 1(2)(A & B) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap F28 LFN 2004.

“You are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment without an option of fine,” Justice Abubakar declared.
