Benue: Gov Alia calls for statewide unity amid security challenges

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has made an impassioned appeal for unity among the people of the state as they face escalating security concerns stemming from persistent attacks by armed herdsmen.

He lamented the ongoing assaults on Benue communities.

Gov Alia described the situation as a critical threat to the very survival of the state, calling for collective resolve and solidarity in confronting the menace.

He stated this while giving his midterm report on Sunday at the township stadium in Vandeikya.

He urged residents to maintain vigilance and work hand-in-hand with security forces to defend their communities.

Governor Alia acknowledged the Federal Government for dispatching additional security operatives to bolster peace efforts and urged citizens to cooperate fully to ensure these initiatives yield lasting results.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the Governor pointed to significant progress in key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, ICT, infrastructure, security, transportation, and human capital development.

He noted that in under two years, his government has recorded accomplishments surpassing those of previous administrations over nearly a decade.

Gov Alia expressed gratitude to the people of Vandeikya for their warm reception and steadfast support, announcing that warehouses are stocked with fertilizer in preparation for distribution to farmers ahead of the 2025 planting season to boost food production.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of the occasion and Member representing Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency, Hon. Prince Solomon Wombo, and the Chairlady, Hon. Mrs. Kukase Garba, commended the unwavering loyalty of the Kunav people to Governor Alia and encouraged them to remain steadfast.

Other dignitaries who spoke included Vandeikya Council Chairman, Hon. Dennis Guda; KUDA Chairman, Deacon Emmanuel Tor Yajir; Members representing Tiev and Kyan Constituencies, Hon. Dr. Matthew Damkor and Hon. Terna Shimawua; the Ter Kunav, His Royal Highness, Chief Nyiyongo Achiaku; and APC State Chairman, Hon. Chief Benjamin Omale.

They all applauded the Governor’s performance and urged continued public support to enable the administration to deliver more democratic dividends.

A key highlight of the event was the defection of over a thousand individuals from various political parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding to the fanfare of the event which featured musical entertainment.
