The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of an unexploded ordnance (UXO) and several explosive fragments in Maiduguri, following the recent fire and explosion at the Giwa Barracks military armory.

According to police sources, a team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit was swiftly deployed to the scene.

According to Zagazola Makama, the suspected explosive, believed to have originated from the earlier military incident, was safely evacuated by bomb disposal experts without any incident.
“In addition to the rocket, mortar bombs and projectile fragments were recovered from nearby residential areas,” the statement noted.

In line with standard operating procedures, the recovered explosives were safely destroyed during a controlled detonation exercise at the EOD-CBRN Training School in Wulari around 4:38 p.m. No casualties were recorded during the operation.

Authorities say the area remains calm, and both police and military teams are continuing with monitoring and clearance operations.

The police command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects to the nearest security agency.
