Chris Brown’s London assault lawsuit dropped

American R&B star Chris Brown has scored a partial legal victory as a man who previously accused him of assault in London has officially withdrawn his civil lawsuit.

Abe Diaw, who filed the suit in 2023, had alleged that Brown attacked him with a tequila bottle at TAPE nightclub, striking him multiple times with a Don Julio 1942 bottle before stomping on him while he was unconscious. Diaw claimed the incident left him with severe injuries.

However, in a new development, Diaw filed paperwork on Friday in Los Angeles County court requesting the dismissal of the case with prejudice, a legal term indicating the lawsuit is permanently closed and cannot be refiled. Such moves often suggest a private settlement was reached between the parties, although no official statement has been made.

While this closes the civil matter on his London assault, Chris Brown still faces a separate criminal case in the United Kingdom stemming from the same nightclub altercation. Earlier this year, U.K. authorities charged the singer with assault and possession of a weapon following his arrest shortly after arriving in the country for his world tour.

Brown, who was later released on bail, appeared in court about two weeks ago, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. The criminal case remains ongoing.
