Davido hosts highlife legend Bright Chimezie in Lagos

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has welcomed veteran highlife musician Bright Chimezie to his Lagos residence in a heartwarming show of admiration and respect.

The meeting comes just days after Davido publicly credited Bright Chimezie’s 2018 hit Because of English as the inspiration behind his latest song With You, a collaboration with fellow star Omah Lay. In a video call shared online last week, Davido expressed his appreciation for Chimezie’s artistry and extended an invitation to meet in person.

Keeping to his promise, Davido hosted the iconic Bright Chimezie, known for his signature Zigima sound, at his home in Lagos. A video making the rounds on social media captured the moment Bright Chimezie arrived in one of Davido’s luxury vehicles, warmly welcomed by the singer himself.

Both artists were seen sharing lively conversations, exchanging praises, and celebrating the connection between two generations of Nigerian music. During their earlier phone chat, Davido had also given Chimezie a preview of the With You music video, to which the highlife legend responded by calling it “a beautiful piece of work” and applauding Davido for acknowledging his influence.

The meeting marks a symbolic and touching moment in Nigerian music history, highlighting the bond between Afrobeats and highlife, as well as the mutual respect between artists across generations.
