The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, has reacted to President Donald Trump’s proposed budget for the 2026 financial year.

The Speaker made his remarks in a statement published on Friday via his official X account.

His response follows the release of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget by the Trump administration, through the White House Office of Management and Budget, OMB, which includes a proposed $162 billion cut to federal spending.

Reacting to the proposal, Speaker Mike Johnson described the budget as a bold and principled framework aligned with the interests of the American people.

“President Trump’s proposed budget is a bold blueprint that reflects the values of hardworking Americans and the commitment to American strength and prosperity.

“Our country cannot continue to bear the hard consequences of years of runaway spending under Democratic leadership, and this budget makes clear that fiscal discipline is non-negotiable. President Trump’s plan ensures every federal taxpayer dollar spent is used to serve the American people, not a bloated bureaucracy or partisan pet projects.

“House Republicans stand ready to work alongside President Trump to implement a responsible budget that puts America first. This budget also reflects the critical role the One Big, Beautiful Bill will play in securing our border and strengthening our national security. This proposal promises the American people that their government is finally listening, leading with commonsense, and restoring the principles of good governance,” he wrote on his X account.
