Spain head coach, Luis de la Fuente, has insisted that his side is one of the favourites to win the 2026 World Cup.
Spain will face Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group H of the competition, starting in three months.
Speaking at his pre-match interview ahead of Spain’s international friendly match with Egypt on Tuesday, De la Fuente also admitted that his team will have to put in a perfect display to win the World Cup.
“There is no doubt that we are among the favourites (to win the World Cup) and I like that, I don’t shy away from the challenge,” De la Fuente said.
“We are going to have to put on a perfect performance to win the World Cup, and we are aware that there are teams just as strong as us.
“For us, these matches are very important. Since last Monday, we have already been working on preparing for the World Cup.
“That is our focus, and we are centred solely and exclusively on that goal.”
Spain heads to the Egypt game after beating Serbia 3-0 in their last friendly encounter.
The last time they won the World Cup was in 2010 in South Africa.
